The union representing Chicago police officers has sued a group of attorneys who represented disgraced former police Cmdr. Jon Burge, alleging that the lawyers fraudulently billed the union for nearly $150,000 for legal services that went unperformed.
The Fraternal Order of Police’s lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, also alleges that a former union official helped with the billing scheme.
The lawsuit accuses attorneys Marc Martin, Richard Beuke and William Gamboney of charging more than $200,000 to file Burge’s appeal of his 2010 perjury and obstruction of justice convictions in federal court.
We don't know how much of this is internal political struggles, paybacks after a nasty campaign or bruised egos. We're pretty sure that the former Third VP wasn't authorizing payments to attorneys on his own.

A Chicago Police captain is suing a fellow officer for allegedly posting defamatory comments about him on Facebook, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday afternoon in Circuit Court of Cook County.
The allegations are outlined in a suit filed by Juan Morado, a 27-year Chicago Police Department veteran. He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Lance Handzel, who has been in the department since 1995.
