Here Comes the Karma (UPDATE)

Not even 14 hours since the papers covered it. Not even 5 hours since McDecrease went on TV touting his wondrous policing strategy. August begins with a "bang, bang, bang:"

• Two 16-year-old boys were killed and another teen was wounded this afternoon in a shooting on the West Side in the city’s East Garfield Park neighborhood.
  
  The attack happened shortly before 1 p.m. on the 600 block of North Avers Avenue, said Police News Affairs [...].
  
  Preliminary reports said three 16-year-olds were shot at the scene and two of those teens died,...

And an e-mailer tells us 011 had another 2 shot before sundown. On a Thursday. With a warm weekend on tap. Good thing the weather doesn't have anything to do with crime. Otherwise we'd be worried.

UPDATE: Seven dead in the first 52 hours of August - there goes McStatistic's July decrease - plus one extra for good measure:

• Two men and two boys were shot and killed Thursday afternoon, among at least 14 people shot between 1 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Chicago police.

  A fifth person was killed early Friday morning, about 4:30 a.m. in a shooting on the 2100 block of North St. Louis Avenue that also wounded another person. Details about that shooting weren't immediately available. The attack was the seventh homicide in the first 52 hours of August, according to police
