Mope-rah Does it Again

Honest to pete, this woman makes a living writing fiction. We're not going to link her nonsense, but we're going to have some fun with it:

  • London is burning and Chicago had better take notice.

“Brazen crowds” is how the Associated Press described the ethnically diverse rioters that streamed out of the poor section of London and stormed the city’s upscale neighborhoods.

Authorities believe the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old father of four by police touched off the violence.

Father of four involved in a gun-running ring and who shot at police first. Once again, Mope-rah expects the police to just stand around and get killed at the hands of criminals without once defending themselves from the onslaught.

  • And what started as a peaceful protest ended with mobs of young people destroying businesses and helping themselves to electronics, flat-screens, smartphones, clothing, and anything else they could carry.
We doubt that any of this was planned to remain peaceful. Interviews with assorted rioters claim they are "taking back" their tax money, as if they actually paid taxes in the first place. We were young in the 60's, but we have a hard time remembering Martin Luther King leading marches that ended at high end electronics stores and designer clothes boutiques, but maybe we missed something.

  • Aided by their addiction to social media, young rioters were able to fan out like a viral video.

Unfortunately, the same thing could happen here, especially if we continue to ignore the large numbers of young people who are growing up without much hope.

These young people live in urban war zones where violence is practically a way of life. Even kids who aren’t necessarily bad kids are joining in.

That is happening already Mary. Maybe you haven't noticed, but the wilding and gooning downtown is already making big use of social media. And the "urban war zones"? Englewood, North Lawndale, they exist.

  • For instance, two weeks ago I went over to 29th and Michigan to attend a birthday party for a childhood friend.

Because my friend failed to tell me that the party was in a South Commons apartment, I ended up parking on Michigan, but I couldn’t access South Commons from there. So I am standing on the street, using my cell phone to let my friend know someone needed to come and get me, when I noticed a large group of kids coming toward me.

Whoops. Can anyone tell us exactly what's about to happen?

  • They seemed to have popped out of nowhere. None of the children looked older than 12. Three kids passed me first, and I spoke. They spoke back, but I noticed that five others hung back until I was between the two groups. Then, one of the kids from the first group turned back and rushed toward me with something in his hand. I screamed at the top of my lungs and both groups scattered, laughing wildly.

It wasn’t until I was safely in the apartment that I realized I had been sprayed in the forehead with pepper spray.

Despite their innocent looks, these kids probably wouldn’t have a problem joining up with a mob of looters.

Predators usually do pop "out of nowhere" Mope-rah. Then they surrounded her - oops! And they all looked under 12? Now we're going to ask the questions Mary didn't. Where did these "children" learn these tactics? Where were their parents when this was occurring? Did you call the police Mary? Or was this another case like when you got carjacked and the police risked their lives to apprehend the criminals, yet you refused to identify even a single one of the offenders lest you start another minority youth down the road with a police record, thereby dooming some other innocent victim to their depredations?

  • Another reason the London riots are a warning is the historically strained relationship that exists in Chicago between the police and the black community.

Revelations that former Mayor Richard M. Daley is listed as a defendant in a lawsuit alleging a cover-up of police torture is only going to make things worst. [sic]

The "strained relationship" you continue to strain by blaming everything on the police and past history, rather than taking responsibility for their actions, working to improve their lot, advancing their prospects like so many before them.

  • Frankly, the disrespect black youth in low-income areas show police, along with the rise in incidents in which whites are bullied or attacked by black youth, is enough to put youth and police on a course that could lead to riots.

This is not just happening in Chicago.

Milwaukee police were caught off-guard last week when mobs of black youth ran amuck at the opening of the Wisconsin State Fair.

Crowds of young black men not only fought with each other, but they attacked whites.

Witnesses described the violence as “unprecedented.”

Unprecedented if you haven't been paying attention.

  • Although Tom Struebing, the chief of the State Fair Police, said several times that the violence was not racially motivated, Milwaukee residents are no more convinced he’s telling the truth anymore than Chicagoans were convinced that North Avenue Beach was shut down earlier this summer because of the extreme heat.

Amazing how the public, once all the facts start leaking out, are less and less likely to buy the line being pushed by the politicians and their media lapdogs, isn't it? People can smell lies and these stories stink like dead alewives in the summer sun. Media credibility is in the tank along with trust in the government. We're sensing a backlash building, but it isn't along the lines of riots. It's along the lines of people, regular citizens, starting to arm themselves since the police aren't able to keep a lid on things.

  • Finally, just like a lot of the young people who rioted in London, a lot of young black people in Chicago’s low-income neighborhoods have been written out of America’s future.

Many of these youth have either dropped out of high school or have criminal backgrounds.

Meanwhile, every day they are bombarded with images of people living the high-on-the-hog lifestyles portrayed on reality TV.

Once again, these people are writing themselves out of a future. We don't force people to drop out of high school. We don't put criminal backgrounds on people. We aren't writing for MTV "Cribs" or touting the "rap culture" or praising criminal behavior while blaming everyone but the face in the mirror.

  • That is why so many unchurched and misguided teens are risking being locked up or even being shot by police to get their hands on a smartphone or an iPod or a set of wheels.
And there it is, the gratuitous shot at the police. What was it Dan Akroyd used to say?

  • Jane Mary, you ignorant slut
If Mope-rah had any knowledge of the law, she'd realize that police haven't been allowed to shot people for Theft since....well, since just about forever. Can anyone find us an example of a "misguided teen" being shot by the police over a smartphone or iPod theft, also known as "Apple-picking" among the criminal sorts?

Unchurched? We have to wonder how that can be with two, three, even four storefront churches every block in some areas of the city. Mega churches dot the landscape, too. Of course, most of these churches are nothing more than tax dodges for shady "reverends." Some have been founded with questionable financing from large scale dope operators. Some even own their own airplanes! A fine example for the poor, misguided and as More-rah says, those "written out of America's future."

  • What exploded in London was a lethal combination of distrust, poverty, disrespect and hopelessness.

Those same ingredients are in abundance right here.

Along with the massive entitlement spending, unchecked welfare payments, un-assimilated immigrant population and rising taxes. Oh yeah, and a liberal prime minister who has cut the police force by thousands in the run up to the Olympic Games and severely handcuffed the ability of law enforcement to take decisive, direct action to control an out-of-control population.

All self-made ingredients by the way. Abetted by Mope-rah and her ilk.

UPDATE: We've had two or three people post comments about how the gun-runner's weapon wasn't fired. We reply, "So the fuck what?" We don't know of a single police force in the world that requires its officers to take fire before returning fire. In the billionth part of a second between the tiniest twitch toward a weapon and when he decided he would become an altar boy and cure cancer, the police were 100% justified in ending the threat to their lives. The road he chose was paved a long time ago.
