Authorities arrested three people after a West Side shooting led to a miles-long chase on the Eisenhower Expressway that ended near the city border with west suburban Oak Park, police said this morning.
The shooting, which occurred during an attempted armed robbery, was heard by a nearby police officer.Just before the 5-mile chase, a white Dodge minivan approached three men standing on the street near the intersection of Central Park Avenue and Roosevelt Road just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Officers from two police districts pursued the vehicle west until the minivan pulled over near the Austin exit and the driver got out and turned himself in, police said.
A suspect in the passenger seat quickly got into the driver's seat and continued west until a traffic jam slowed them down, police said.
The remaining two suspects then jumped out of the minivan near the Harlem exit and fled, but were quickly apprehended near the scene.
The Chicago officers were aided by Oak Park police and Illinois State police, who managed traffic, police said.
Good job all around.
