See What Sticks on the Wall

Another scattergun lawsuit:
  • The three children of a Chicago man who hung himself in a Chicago Police Department holding cell are suing the city for not properly monitoring their father, alleging the on-duty officers were aware of the man’s propensity to commit suicide.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court, says 49-year-old Guillermo Villamil was arrested on Sept. 8 and placed in a lock-up facility in the Hansen Park neighborhood at 5555 W. Grand Ave.

He was placed alone in a cell and not monitored by police officers, the lawsuit said.

The suit makes this allegation:

  • The lawsuit alleges police officers were aware of Villamil’s propensity to commit suicide and did not properly monitor him.
So he had committed suicide how many times prior to this? We don't know whether to laugh at the lawyer who wrote the lawsuit or the reporter.
