Another useless intrusion of Illinois government into what is a pretty clear cut instance of a Constitutional Right:
- For more than four decades, Illinois' Firearm Owners Identification card has been viewed as a first line of defense for protecting the public by trying to keep guns out of the hands of the most dangerous in society.
But a first-ever state audit of the program has found the safety net weakened by bureaucratic loopholes and erroneous and incomplete data that could allow the seriously mental ill and others to keep or get a FOID card to buy firearms and ammunition.
Forty years of government spending and it has shown exactly zero ability to do what it was written to do. Sheriff Tom Dart is making political hay out of this and we're sure he'll try to come up with some new insane proposal to prevent citizens from exercising their Second Amendment Rights to protect themselves in the face of criminals who have no intention of following either the FOID Act or any of Dart's proposals (or Madigan's or Rahm's or Shortshanks, etc.)
And the local governing bodies failure to report eligible cases for revocation (mentally ill persons) just makes the entire enterprise a bigger joke than even we thought possible.
