- Nine people are dead and 22 others -- including a 3-year-old boy -- have been wounded in shootings throughout the city from Friday night to Sunday night.
That's actually an impressive ratio of dead to wounded considering the numbers of past weeks.
But we got word from some people in 011. Seems they had ten people shot Monday night and two of them died. Tuesday afternoon, there were another 3 shot, one a Park District employee in the area of Division and Pulaski. We can't seem to find any media reports regarding all but one of those shootings.
Then the Tribune covers a quadruple shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood:
Four teens were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood late this afternoon, authorities said.
The men and boys, ages 14 to 19, were shot near 60th Street and Rockwell Avenue about 5:38 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs...
And another shooting in 011:
- A few minutes earlier, a man and a woman were shot in the 3800 block of West Augusta Boulevard, Zala said. About 5:33 p.m., a 34-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks, and a 21-year-old man suffered a graze wound, in a drive-by shooting.
So 011 is playing catch up with the rest of the city, with 3 dead and around 15 wounded between Sunday and Tuesday afternoon, but you wouldn't know it from the media reports. Might it be the racism of lowered expectations - as in the media expects the west and south sides to run red with blood, so why report it? Or is News Affairs skipping call outs to the media to make it look like crime is down (which it isn't)?
