After the service, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy had his own message regarding the gunmen.
“We’re going to get ‘em. Make no mistake.”
When asked if he had evidence to back the claim, McCarthy said, “I have 13,000 Chicago police.”
So what does that mean? Here's one scenario:
- Defense Attorney: Please state your name and position in the Chicago Police Department for the record.
GMac: Garry McCarthy, Superintendent
DA: And exactly how many police officers do you command?
GMac: 13,000
DA: I have here a listing of personnel currently employed by the CPD. Could you read that number at the bottom?
GMac: 9,247
DA: That isn't 13,000 is it?
GMac: Well, no.
DA: So you're committing perjury?
GMac: Well, it was 13,000 about 20 years ago.
DA: And this other statement about evidence to back your claim - are you suborning perjury from "13,000" Chicago Police Officers?
Hush up aleady, Let the detectives work the case and stop making statements to the press that can be picked apart in a few years.
