- A man out of prison three months has been charged with shooting and stabbing to death a security guard while trying to rob a gas station on the West Side, police said.
Kaz Link, 33 -- convicted five times on drug and theft charges since 1997 -- was charged today with one count of first-degree murder. - Link, of the 4300 block of West Jackson Boulevard, has a string of arrests dating back to 1997. In 2008, he was sentenced to six years in prison for the unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. He was paroled in July.
Let's see - 2008 plus 6 years equals 2014, right? But he's out in three, even with five other convictions. And now he's a murderer.
"Truth in sentencing" would be a wonderful thing. As would a "three strikes" law.
