BAGHDAD (AP) — Britain will help the Iraqi government dispose of what's left of deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's chemical weapons, still stored in two bunkers in north of Baghdad, the British embassy in Baghdad announced Monday.
The British Defense Ministry will start training Iraqi technical and medical workers this year, an embassy statement said. The teams will work to safely destroy remnants of munitions and chemical warfare agents left over from Saddam's regime. He was overthrown in 2003 following an American-led invasion.
Saddam stored the chemical weapons near population centers so that he could access them quickly, despite the danger to his civilian population.
Most of Iraq's chemical weapons were destroyed by military forces in 1991 during the first Gulf War or by U.N. inspectors after the fighting. The inspections halted just before the invasion.
Iraq is a party to the U.N. Chemical Weapons Convention and must get rid of the remaining material, according to terms of the pact.

In Case You Missed It...
...and everyone did since the media in the United States hasn't said a word about it:
Greek Riots
No one has any real idea how the entire European Union is going to collapse or when. But there sure are a lot of cops getting hurt overseas:
- Greek lawmakers on Monday approved harsh new austerity measures demanded by bailout creditors to save the debt-crippled nation from bankruptcy, after riots in Athens and other cities left stores looted and burned and more than 120 people hurt.
The historic vote paves the way for Greece’s European partners and the International Monetary Fund to release $170 billion in new rescue loans, without which Greece would default on its mountain of debt next month and likely leave the eurozone — a scenario that would further roil global markets.
- At least 45 businesses were damaged by fire, including several historic buildings, movie theaters, banks and a cafeteria, in the worst riot damage in Athens in years. Fifty police officers were injured and at least 70 protesters were hospitalized.
Not a really good ratio of cops-to-protestors injured. There will always be more rioters, ,but it takes a while to train up replacement cops. Prayers for our brothers and sisters in arms in Greece.
Propaganda War
The aftermath of the bin Laden operation continues to reverberate throughout the world. This story popped up in most major papers:
- A stash of pornography was found in the hideout of Osama bin Laden by the U.S. commandos who killed him, current and former U.S. officials said Friday.
The pornography recovered in bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, consists of modern, electronically recorded video and is fairly extensive, according to the officials, who discussed the discovery with Reuters on condition of anonymity.
The officials said they were not yet sure precisely where in the compound the pornography was discovered or who had been viewing it. Specifically, the officials said they did not know if bin Laden himself had acquired or viewed the materials.
Thanks to our extensive contacts in the CIA, the NSA and the Pentagon, SCC can exclusively reveal a partial listing of the porn-stash Osama bin Laden kept around (for fatwa research purposes only):
- Between the Sheiks
- Broke-Yak Mountain
- Hard as Iraq
- Packin' Stan
- Tora Bora Whora
- Turban Cowboys
- I Dream of Weenie
- I Slam
- Arabian Tights
- The Love Goat (Seasons 1 and 2)
We suppose anyone viewing these titles would think America was a decadent, infidel, Great Satan nation. And if the Navy Seals caught us with any of this, we'd pray they killed us and hid our body underwater, too.
