A South Side man faces a burglary charge after he was shot by a retired Chicago police sergeant when the man broke into the former officer’s property, police said.
Carl Williams, 51, was charged with burglary after he was arrested in connection with the burglary in the 1300 block of East 67th Street late Friday morning, police said.Officers were called to the home about 11:30 a.m. after Williams broke into the building, police said. Williams used a three-pound sledge hammer to break a window, according to court documents.
The sergeant saw Williams with the hammer and shot him, police said.
Unfortunately, the offender will live to steal again - this is Cook County after all.
