Candle Light Vigil

The annual event is coming up Tuesday evening:

• The 2011 Candlelight Vigil will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 7:30 pm in Gold Star Families Memorial and Park. All police officers, their families, and friends are invited. The ceremony is expected to last an hour, and will take place rain or shine.
  
  As part of the tradition of the Candlelight Vigil, the names of all 557 Chicago police officers who died in the line of duty will be read. If anyone would like to read a particular name, please contact Beata Staszewski of the Special Events Unit at 5-5253.
  
  Gold Star Familes Memorial and Park is located on Chicago Park District grounds near Waldron Drive (in the shadow of Soldier Field). Uniformed CPD personnel will direct attendees to the free parking lot at the 18th Street exit off of Lake Shore Drive.

We believe last year, every district sent one or two cars for the event and the turnout was exceptional. This year, with the beautiful weather on tap, should be even bigger.
