And we quote:
- Effective immediately, the terms "Aggravated Battery" and "Homicide" are strictly forbidden. The terms "Shooting" and "Murder" will be used in lieu of the previous terms. The terms "Aggravated Battery" and "Homicide" will be treated like the "N" word. If a subject is severely beaten, stabbed bludgeoned, etc..., but does not die, we say he was the victim of a beating, stabbing bludgeoning, etc. This is in effect for written reports as well as oral reports such as Compstat. Please ensure this directive is passed on to your XO's and all personnel.
Pardon our French, but what the hell is this about? Has anyone mentioned that "Aggravated Battery" and "Homicide" are legal words and definitions written into Illinois statute and codified by the Legislature in the ILCS? Are we going to start charging people with "Shooting" now?
