The rumors keep getting stronger and stronger:
- A fly on the wall at 35th told me that the bosses are afraid that we won't have enough Tier 1 officers on the front lines to handle the G8/NATO protests. Starting early next year they're creating a 200 P.O. force, and the old MSF'ers will be offered the chance to be brought back. They figure they already have the training and equipment. After the city burns, the unit will remain to work as summer saturation teams (West and South). They're looking at housing the teams out of the current Area 4 after it's cleared out.
We suppose if you live north and drive south every day, this might look like an opportunity to ease your commute, save some gas money and once again, get out of Patrol. Until they dump you south again, probably as the summer mayhem dies out again with winter's arrival. A ready made force of officers volunteering to live outside the contract doesn't exactly help things. It affects hiring, promotions and manning of the so-called "quiet" districts.
In the meantime, what's a Tier 1? And why do we keep hearing the city or Department aren't accepting outside agency offers of assistance?
