A Far South Side man was ordered held without bond after being charged with the shooting deaths of two people in the Chatham neighborhood Friday.
- Prosecutors said in court that Russell admitted to the shooting and told police where to find the gun. He fired 14 shots from a 40-caliber pistol "until the gun jammed," officials said.
- "Thankfully this was observed by a uniformed police officer... Thankfully the gun jammed. Thankfully the police officers were not struck and no innocent bystanders were struck," [Judge] Chiampas told Russell. "All this at the very young age of 22 years old, and you're facing a potential life sentence."
Well, not really your honor - this is Cook County after all. He might just get time served.
