Rahm's campaign pledge to put 1,000 more officers on the street continues to gather a smell around it, not unlike the alewives that wash ashore on beaches across Chicagoland:
- Ninety-two police officers from administrative positions and some new recruits will be placed on street beats, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Dept. Supt. Garry McCarthy announced Sunday during a press conference at a Far South Side park.
[...] Of these 92 officers, 53 are graduated recruits from the Chicago Police Academy. - Starting July 21st, the 53 Probationary Police Officers, who graduated from the Police Academy last spring, will be deployed to districts 4, 6, 8, 10, 15 and 24.
So 53 of these officers, who have already been on the street since last spring, are finally off probation, so Rahm's going to count them as "on the street"?
Just where the hell did they serve their probation then?
Redeploying almost 500 officers from a couple of street unit into districts might give the districts more flexibility in terms of addressing localized problems, but it isn't putting officers "on the street" by any stretch of the imagination. Neither is this.
Unless of course you're the Chicago Sun Times sucking on Rahm's ass in an attempt to build up his record for a future senate or presidential run - then it's gold, especially to the uninformed.
