Chicago police Officer Christopher Elliott was getting ready to pull out of the gas station at Western and Diversey avenues Wednesday night when a man pounded on the window of his squad car, frantically yelling, "Baby, baby."
The man pointed to an unresponsive child in a van. Elliott rushed over, took the boy from the woman who was holding him and gently turned the child so he was facing away.
"He was just out of it, and he looked white and pale," Elliott said. "I began tapping it on the back and as I was tapping it the baby started to vomit out some food."
Elliott is being credited with saving the life of the choking infant, whose name he learned was Fernando.
Well done Officer.
