A man who was allegedly pistol-whipping his wife was shot in the head during an exchange of gunfire with police early Sunday in Maywood.
At 1:27 a.m., Maywood police officers responded to a call from a woman who reported that she had been pistol-whipped by her husband in their home in the 2000 block of South 11th Avenue, according to police.
Officers began trying to negotiate with the suspect. Once inside the home, the 40-year-old man allegedly fired a shot at police, who returned fire, police said.
“An officer was struck in the [bullet-resistant] vest and police returned fire,’’ said Police Chief Tim Curry.
More trigger-happy police no doubt - the epidemic has migrated to the suburbs. We can't believe that an officer getting shot (luckily in the vest) would necessitate return fire to defend himself and a woman being beaten with a gun. Can't wait for Mope-rah's column on this one.
Good job and wishing a speedy recovery to our suburban friends.
