- In what police are calling gang-related road rage, a man was shot and seriously wounded near the corner of Michigan Avenue and Ontario Street early this morning after he got out of a car and used a pipe to break the window of an SUV.
- When asked what the incident says about violence in the city, [First Deputy Superintendent] Wysinger replied: “I don’t think you can really attribute it to anything. You have two guys that seemingly got into some argument or traffic-related incident. They stopped, exchanged words and the person inside the damaged vehicle took offense.’’
“This could have happened anyplace in the city or suburbs,’’
But it didn't happen "anyplace" Al. It happened at Michigan and Ontario, close to the heart and soul of the Chicago tourist industry. Add to that the recent beating in Wicker Park, the throat slashing in Wrigleyville, the car jacking by Goose Island, the like-clockwork beatings at the beaches and still barely covered weekend wildings downtown, we think it's safe to say we've moved beyond a "perception problem." We're safely into a "reality problem."
