A teenage boy was shot dead in front of his mother Friday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
Jalen Stogner, 17, and his mother were at a laundromat in the 4800 block of South Ashland Avenue when Stogner got into a verbal fight with a man about 4:20 p.m., officials said.
The man pulled out a gun and shot Stogner in the chest, police said, adding that the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

A 15-year-old girl walking home from school was shot in the abdomen Friday morning in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, officials and family said.
Telissa Shields was walking with a friend when she was caught in crossfire in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street around 11 a.m., according to family and a police source.
